Grounded Travels is an international travel company focused on curating personalized and impactful trip experiences to Ghana. 

Our co-founders started this company with the vision of exposing students to the continent of Africa. As college alumni themselves, they noticed the lack of opportunities for students to travel to Africa, especially in Predominantly White Institutions (PWI’s). 

Our goal is to bridge that gap by providing opportunities to visit Ghana for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  • Co-Founder

    Kwame Bonsra is co-founder of Grounded Travels and was born and raised in the United States. He created Grounded alongside Emmanuel Ellard when he realized the lack of opportunities for Students to visit the continent of Africa in an impactful and meaningful way. As a first-generation African living in the United States, he has been well-positioned to offer unique travel experiences in order bridge the gap between the U.S. and Ghana. He is an MBA Graduate of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and currently lives in Maryland.

  • Co-Founder

    Emmanuel Ellard was born and raised in the Washington DC, Maryland area. He was afforded his opportunity to travel to Ghana - for the first time in 2017 - while studying English at Howard University. During his first trip to Ghana, he felt an inexplicable feeling as if he had been there before. Since then, Emmanuel has organized and executed several international trips for those to explore the country. In 2021, Emmanuel moved back to Ghana to begin what is now Grounded Travels alongside Kwame Bonsra.

  • William Kumi is Grounded Travel’s Tour Guide Director. He was born and raised in Ghana and has guided several tour groups through the rich history of Ghana. His artistic flair in speaking, comedic timing, and close roots to all areas of Ghana provide a fun and insightful way to learn about all aspects of Ghana.
